Site Plan for Portland Historical Tours Website

Client Questions

  1. What did the client say that they want the web site to accomplish? Describe the goal of the web site in one or two sentences. (purpose of this site)
  2. Who is the intended audience? (who will visit this site)
  3. What opportunity, problem, or issue did you hear that the client wants to address? (what problem are you solving)
  4. What does the client want the site visitors to do? (action(s) the user should perform)
  5. List and provide working links to at least two related or similar sites found on the Web and explain why you think they are related. These can be the ones listed in the documents above *or* any other sites you find on the Internet that seem to address a similar need. Look at those sites on the Internet, then answer two questions: a) What did you like about those other websites? b) What did you not like (what do you think you could do better?) (competitive analysis)
    1. Portland Walking Tours
      • Like: Their tours are highly rated (Trip Advisor and numerous other publications mention them). They have their social media connected. The nav bar and front page make it easy to search for what you need. They list the sold out tours on the main page.
      • Don't like: Their site is extremely juvenile and looks like it was created in the 1990's. If they have that much press, they should invest in a webdesigner. It's a white background with lots of blue text, very little pictures. No video. The design is horrible - really, there is no design or thought to it.
    2. Oregon Tour Co.
      • Like: Colorful site. Lots of photos. Social media is connected. Lots of recommendations from local Portland establishments. Easy to book off the main page. Has a FAQ section, review section, etc.
      • Don't like: It's a little TOO busy with their images and they aren't laid out that well on the front page. For example, the slideshow is great, but then there are like 10 thumbnails on the right hand side half way down the page. I think that makes it look less professional. A couple photos here and there, with a video on the main page would be better. They can have additional pictures in the tours, reviews, etc. sections.
