From the Harry Potter books and films, these were a product developed by Fred and George Weasley with the first handmade version sold at Hogwarts! Later they would sell them in their shop in Diagon Alley. The box came with a set of four different sweets. They were two-toned, color coded candies. Biting off of one end temporarily gave you an illness to get you out of class. Then once you were excused you simply ate the other half of the candy and were well again! DISCLAIMER: Please note, the sweets in MY set are not magical and therefore do not make you sick or better again! 😉

Skiving Snackbox Side ViewI decided to attempt to make a screen accurate version of the Skiving Snackbox for a Harry Potter Halloween party I attended in 2010. At the time I thought I might do some as gifts so I made a couple extras in an assembly line fashion. These were a LOT of work and I’m not sure when I’ll make more as the box construction took quite some time. When I do, I plan to upload my step by step process.

When I was constructing these I went off of screen capture images of the ones used in the film as well as pictures I found online of a prop that was on display in a Harry Potter exhibit of film props.

The box is handmade entirely – every single aspect is constructed from cardboard and fashioned to a cardboard box frame I created. It’s pieced together by me and hand painted to match the ones in the film. The boxes the twins were supposed to have constructed had paint dribbles, the labels were crooked, etc. all to look like they were thrown together by kids. This is exactly how I made mine. The box is fairly sturdy as I reinforced it as well as I could, but I found out that you have to be careful not to overload it with too many sweets as it makes the compartments drag.
